Worship Team Auditions!

We are always looking to grow and expand our worship community and as our body grows, new opportunities for involvement become available. If you are gifted as a musician, singer, or sound tech, we want to hear from you! We will be holding auditions Saturday, February 11th, from 10am-1pm at Hope Church in the main auditorium.

Please be prepared with the following songs, as they are the songs that you will be auditioning with:

  1. How Great is our God
  2. You are good (Bethel)
  3. Break Every Chain (Jesus Culture)
  4. How He loves (John Mark McMillian/Jesus Culture)

Below is our Criteria to be part of the Worship Team. If you have any other questions that are not answered by the information below or you’re ready to sign up to audition, feel free to contact us by sending an email to worship@hopechurch.net.

Criteria:

Worship Team Criteria

All musical team members must be able to:

  • Read chord charts
  • Properly tune their instruments
  • Have a basic understanding of music theory
  • Play in time to a click track/metronome
  • Play in different time signatures (3/4, 4/4, 6/8) in a variety of patterns
  • Play dynamically (soft, medium, loud)
  • Play/sing on pitch
  • Follow the direction of the leader’s interpretation of the song through improvisation
  • Play/sing in front of other people

All musical team members must be willing to:

  • Not play if a song requires it, or if asked by the team leader

All musical team members must:

  • Be a Christian exhibiting a healthy, growing walk with Jesus
  • Be committed to attend rehearsals, and be there at 8am on Sundays and 6 on Wednesdays prior to the service you are participating in
  • Have support from your spouse, if married, to be involved
  • Audition at the time the worship pastor set up

Stringed-Instrument Players
Must be able to:

  • Know the names of strings
  • Have a basic understanding of their instrument’s fret-board
  • Know and play all major and minor chords
  • Properly utilize a capo (guitar only)

Vocalists
Must be able to:

  • Hear and/ or be taught parts (sing harmony and melody)
  • Blend with and adapt their vocal style to a team of vocalists
  • Confidently sing into a microphone in front of others
  • Show proper use of vibrato in a contemporary worship context

Drums/Percussion
Must be able to:

  • Properly utilize various types of sticks
  • Play with control
  • Follow team leader’s lead during songs (continue, speed up, etc)
  • Play in different time signatures (3/4,4/4, 6/8) in a variety of patterns
  • Play with a metronome/click track or quickly learn to do so

Sound Technicians
Must:

  • Have basic knowledge of sound
  • Have basic understanding of mixing live musicians
  • Be willing to go through training and follow direction of lead sound engineer
